Within the interdisciplinary Medical Informatics research division, the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science – Bioinformatics Group, Prof. Dr. Dominik Heider, offers one position as

Research Assistant (Ph.D. student)

The open Ph.D. position is an integral part of the collaboration with the Humangenetics department of the University Hospital Marburg and the Center for Addiction and Mental Health in Toronto, Canada. The aim is to develop bioinformatics methods to integrate multi-omics data in a clinical setting. Modern machine learning and deep learning methods are adapted to predict diagnosis or optimize treatment in oncology and psychiatry. Close collaborations with our partners at CAMH will allow working in a vibrant national and international bioinformatics research environment including project meetings in Toronto, Canada. Moreover, you will be able to advance your knowledge in the areas of bioinformatics, machine learning as well as systems medicine. You will learn to employ these novel technologies to biomedical data, such as genomics, transcriptomics or metabolomics, within the scope of interesting, clinically relevant studies. Experience in machine learning, medical informatics, bioinformatics, or systems biology is a plus. We expect the candidate to have a Master’s in computer science, bioinformatics, medical informatics, data science, statistics or a similar field, good programming skills, and the willingness to work in an interdisciplinary collaborative project together with partners from different disciplines. Disposition to own scientific qualification (e.g. a doctorate project in the area bioinformatics) is expected. We actively support the professional development of junior researchers, e.g., by the offers of Marburg Research Academy (MARA), the International Office, and the Human Resources Development Office.

The position is offered for a period of 3 years if no former times of qualification must be considered. The salary and benefits commensurate with a public service position in the state Hesse, Germany (TV-H E13, 65 %).
